Central Heating (CH) Wiring and controls fault finding course
Designed for
This course covers the full range of electrical wiring and controls in central heating systems. It is aimed at any candidate wishing to carry out such work. The scope covers candidates who require this knowledge as a part of their day to day job, ie , Central Heating Installers, Electricians etc.
Course Duration
The course duration is 2 days. This is a centre approved certified course.
It should be noted that the trainers employed to deliver this course have all carried out inspections on behalf of various regulating bodies within the electrical industry and have experience delivering courses to the highest standards.
Objectives
At the end of the course, delegates will:
Be able to carry out a pre work survey/inspection. Have a practical understanding of fault finding on central heating system wiring. Understand and practice safe isolation procedures. Be able to carry out earthing and bonding. Understand and practice electrical test procedures for initial verification. Understand correct cable and component selection. Recording of electrical test results and completion of certification.
Understand special locations within a dwelling. Know the requirements for a new circuit.
Course Content
The course can be broken down into the following units although a very fluid approach is used for delivering this course dependent on the candidates needs:
Documentation
Requirements for Part P
Inspection and Test procedures
A look at Test equipment including a presentation by Megger
Practical installations of lighting, Ring mains and other domestic circuits
There are a wide range of controllers, valves & thermostats used in central heating systems in the UK. There are systems with zone valves and others with 3-port valves, some are fully pumped while others have a thermal convection loop, and then of course there are Combi boilers! During the course we will look in detail into the following systems, explaining how they work and how you can recgonise them;
S-Plan - Multi zone valve system
Y-Plan - 3 Port Multi position
C-Plan - Gravity system
W-Plan - Diverter system
G-Plan - Zone valve (normally open!)
Thermal Store
We then look in detail at all of the components of heating systems (except boilers) and give you a through understanding of how they work, these include
Pumps
Motorised valves (3-Port, Zone & Diverter
Thermostats (cylinder, room, frost & pipe)
Controllers
Bypass valves
TRVs
Then we give you the hands-on opportunity to wire up from the basics, a complete zone valve system &/or a complete 3-port system. Then once you are happy with the wiring we will introduce you to the faulting finding process and introduce you to some common problems and solutions.
Candidate Rate
The course fee is £275 inclusive of certificate fees, Refreshments and Lunch on all days.
A deposit of £100 per candidate is payable on booking.
The balance of £175 is payable on the first day of the course.
